What we are looking for is a designer whose work has an opinion, and can create uniquely compelling visual designs which ultimately will be integrated by our developers into WordPress. That is, the deliverables will be PSDs, but if you are a wizard with integration into WordPress, there is no reason why you could not capture this part of the project work as well. Mostly, we want someone whose design work far eclipses templates clients could go out and buy, who can accurately and completely capture the tone of a brand/product/service/etc. and express it visually.
Experience doing responsive design is key, as is experience delivering designs that meet, if not exceed client goals (e.g. enhanced conversion rate, more elegant/cohesive branding, etc.). Although we love art, we need a designer who can balance art with clear, intuitive function.
We are looking for someone ultra-reliable, super-sharp, with a keen attention to detail. You know, all of the usual stuff. Bonus points if you have a good sense of humor and take providing exceptional quality and helpful service very seriously.
This is a contract position, and all work will be project-based, waxing and waning as the work comes in. We have one project in the pipe right now we need help with, with several others pending. For the right person we could potentially offer several projects per month.
The way most projects work is with a 50% down payment to start, and the remainder at the end. Most projects last 2-4 weeks (depending on the scope of work, as well as how swift/urgent the client is), and you get paid the same week we do.
To apply, please send a resume (that is, if you do those anymore), as well as examples of your work. Please include back-stories accompanying said examples (candidates who leave this off will be at a disadvantage). Specifically, please include your opinions about how the design achieves the goals of the project. Additionally, please include your standard rate (including normal timeline) for a 3-5 unique PSD site (e.g., your standard brochure-type site), including three revisions each.
