The Mammoth Lakes Trails and Public Access Foundation (MLTPA) is seeking the assistance of a new-media product designer to join our team as we develop and launch an interactive web and mobile data product that complements a new trail system being built in Mammoth Lakes, California. MLTPA is spearheading the construction of the trail system, known as the Mammoth Lakes Trail System. Residents and visitors pursue many kinds of recreation in Mammoth Lakes—Nordic and alpine skiing, hiking, mountain biking, dog-walking, trail running, fishing, off-highway and over-snow vehicle riding, and horseback riding, just to name a few. Many of these take place on trails. As such, the Mammoth Lakes Trail System will be both part of the region's transportation system and a recreation attraction in and of itself.

To help people discover and access the recreation experiences that the Mammoth Lakes Trail System will enable, MLTPA is building a companion information system and web application: «old link».

People will access «old link» via computers, tablets, and smartphones. Printed trail maps and outdoor signage and wayfinding include URLs and QR codes that will allow people to quickly get information about routes, points of interest, and nearby recreation amenities.

A rich repository of geocoded data will power «old link». A dedicated staff will maintain its content. Trail users will be able to contribute to the site via GPS routes captured on their handheld devices, as well as their own photos.

MLTPA is seeking the assistance of a product designer with a strong background in user-interface development, responsive web design, and CSS/HTML coding to assist with the development of «old link», which will include:

 page template design and UI development, working with developed data resources and design mockups

 development and delivery of high-fidelity HTML/CSS templates for the service’s key screens

 information architecture & site/service map

 consultation on identity (brand/logo) development

 consultation on the development of supporting data resources

The right candidate will have built modern web and mobile apps that use geodata and will be familiar with content-management systems, website measurement systems, responsive design, and a/b testing. It’s a big plus if you’re an outdoor enthusiast, too.
