Life at Cinchcast

You will be working with a small product team (3 people), reporting to the VP of Product, so you have a chance to make a big impact. Our design process is highly collaborative and iterative. We start in the studio with members from each team working on white board and paper to produce sketches & flowcharts. Then we move to prototypes in HTML or hi-fidelity wireframes. We believe in working with the medium as much as possible before moving into Photoshop to polish a working design.

We're located on the island of Manhattan which we think beats any perk offered in the valley. Our office is totally sweet with huge windows and a tornado foosball table. The team is a small group of startup veterans who've traded in the razor scooters and beer pong to focus on building totally awesome stuff. We treat people like adults so there's no dress code or time clock.

What is Cinchcast?

Cinchcast is the most powerful audio publishing system on the web: record anywhere and publish everywhere. We have a suite of apps that enable you to record audio directly from your phone, the web, or our mobile apps and easily publish it to your website, facebook page, twitter stream or blog. Thousands of people and small businesses use our products every day for applications in journalism, education, conferencing and media publishing.

Cinchcast recently completed a $6M round of funding, so we're well-financed and ready to tackle the future. You can read more about the funding round here:

We are looking for a highly creative visual designer to lead the development of the look & feel of our site, design insanely intuitive web-based tools, and generally advocate for The User.

This is a really exciting role because you get to apply your passion for Design to a brand new exciting venture – talk about making your mark!

First and foremost, we’re looking for an extremely talented person who’s a pleasure to work with; we’re open to molding the position to your strengths. This can be either a full-time regular position or a freelance/contract role, whatever works better for you.

You could be…
• a talented visual designer who makes masterpieces on 980px-wide canvas (that also look great at 320px or 640px), can turn a URL into a identity that conveys our entire brand, and could design a gorgeous custom WordPress or Tumblr theme in a couple days.
• a gifted interaction designer who knows how lives to turn four-step processes into single-page actions, understands user psychology as well as A/B testing, and loves to design tools that are as easy for Baby Boomers to use as they are exciting for 20-somethings to evangelize.
• a brilliant front-end engineer who debugs AJAX in your sleep, loves design but hasn’t touched Photoshop in years, and named your dog jQuery. You’re closer to an engineer than a oil painter, but you still know how to make things look nice. We’d probably hire out for initial branding, but look to you for everything else.

Ideally, you are all three of these, wrapped up nicely with a bow. But if you are strong in any two, or absolutely nail any one of them, let’s talk.

Anywhere in the U.S. — we run a virtual office, and collaborate online. (If that stresses you out, apply anyway. We’re very good at replicating the best parts of office life in a virtual setting.)

AKQA will evaluate and determine a solve for the placement of combinable offers in the Search and Create flow. In doing so, The AKQA team will provide a high-level recommendation for client's review and approval. Upon approval of the recommendation, AKQA will create fully annotated wireframes for said solution. Additionally, the AKQA team will review and update the original annotated user experience design document (provided by client) to reflect any changes that result from the combinability solution as well as the constraints captured in the Project Brief.
